Power Wheels Kid Crashes Down a Hill
I don't understand why people are amused by videos of children hurting themselves. It makes me ache inside to see how close they come to serious life-threatening damage. Adults who do dumb things are occasionally funny, especially when the result is unexpected. But when the title of the video gives away everything it contains, where is the humor? And I expect the fact that it's a kid makes this funnier to some than if it was an adult.

I'm not trying to judge, I just don't get it. Why am I different from those who laugh?

ABC on Palin - "Selling Lots Of Books Is Not Politics"
I'm startled by the man who thinks that Palin is clever, but not serious. I'm quite certain it's the other way around.

What it Takes: Phoenix Anarchists face down NAZIS (NSM)
These are sad, sad people. You can have a political agenda similar to Nazism, but once you actually start identifying as Nazis, the single most hated group (and accepted by mainstream society as hated), then you are demonstrating a real cry for help. They need therapy. Lots and lots of therapy.

Pro$titution
Yes, please end this puritanical nightmare we are in. Even though I don't think I would ever use a prostitute's services, it's horrid to think of the conditions these poor women suffer simply because their trade is illegal.

I think it's quite simple. When making something illegal does more harm than good, put it back the way it was and try something else!

Prostitution and the drug trade would not be entangled with serious crime if they weren't illegal.

Olbermann Goes After Sarah Palin's Lies
There's no way voting republicans will select her as the candidate against Obama. She'll be out of the race by the time she announces she's in. She's a figurehead for the moment, but everybody knows she brought down the McCain campaign, and you'll see republicans start to come up with odd reasons to vote against her. They will never mention her lack of intellect or political knowledge, it will be strange things. Then she will bow out, saying that she needs to focus on her family and her "other projects".

Hopefully at that time she will disappear forever.

After You
Ah yes. The mystery of the man with no peripheral vision! If not for the camera reversal, it would be impossible to not see what happened to the girl.

Bizarre "Trick" Touchdown Pass on the Goal Line
You don't see many "no look" passes in football. As far as I can tell, that's the only trick. Otherwise it's a short pass to the tight end.

David Mitchell's Bread & Milk rant from QI
From comedy.org.uk:

There are at least two known "Truths" which have appeared on The Unbelievable Truth which are in fact false. One is that you if remove the fleas from a hedgehog, then the hedgehog dies. The other is the cricket did not exist during Shakespeare's time. Both of these were corrected when David Mitchell appeared on an episode of QI.

Couple Arrested for Not Paying Tip
>> ^dystopianfuturetoday:
I've got to side with the business on this one. If you go to a restaurant that requires you tip, then don't act surprised and angry at the end of the meal when you get your bill.

That is the point. You should not (and in all likelihood *cannot*) be "required" to tip. They were surprised and angry by the service not the included tip, and the it should have been removed from the bill as soon as the customers complained. None of this "If you don't pay it I'll call the police" bullshit.

The saddest part is that they said they will pay the tip if the problem ever comes up again. Maybe they'll change their minds if they win the court case.

Edit: Check out the utter destruction on Yelp!

What if Earth had rings like Saturn?
Several people have mentioned the "shadow of the rings". The rings would be pretty thin on an astronomical scale, so there wouldn't really be much of a shadow when the sun was behind them. I'd guess that a full "ring eclipse" would be like a slightly overcast day where you could still couldn't really look at the sun. On the other hand, the diffraction pattern might be magnificent. I guess it would depend on what the rings were made of.

Also keep in mind that the "shadow" would constantly be moving based on the time of year, so there would be no place on Earth where the eclipse was permanent.

I wish he had shown some images of the shadow that Earth would cast on the rings. The two cutoff points from the part of the rings that show brightly at night to the part that is in shadow would give a real good sense of what time it is.

And just how dark would night be at that point? There would be significantly more reflected light than what the moon gives us.

Sam Harris - The Credibility of Miracle Stories
That is the essence of why I stopped believing completely in my 20s. There is simply no foundation of reality in Christianity, especially when regarded in the context of the multitudes of other religions that claim to be the one true faith. There is absolutely nothing to contradict the idea that a small group of people simply made it all up some time around 50-60 AD. The same goes for every other religion, the only changes are year of inception and the corresponding expectations of the societies from whence they come.

TDS: Jon Stewart explains why he doesnt like Sarah Palin
^ Nailed it right there. If the GOP was more libertarian like they claim, then they would be a worthy opposition party.

These days all they do is feed fear and empty promises to their flocks of sheeple.

Couple Arrested for Not Paying Tip
^ I hope the restaurant has their asses handed to them in court. Compulsory tip is bullshit, and should have been removed from the bill immediately upon the customer's complaint.

blankfist, she stated very clearly that the waitress "never came back". Waiting an hour for food, failure to receive utensils, and being ignored by waitstaff is unacceptable. I don't care how busy the place was.

In most situations, I agree that being nice to your server and tipping well is important. But bad service should never be rewarded, no matter how sucky their job is.

I hope we find out the resolution of this case.

Urban myths about climate change
^ I heartily agree. I've tried to look up sources for scientific journals many times, and if you're lucky you get an abstract, and that's about it. The day of the high cost scientific journal should be over.

Bill O'Reilly Doesn't Care About The Constitution
Scum. Absolute scum, who would drag us down to his level by ignoring the rights we have granted everybody for everybody's protection.

"It was a circus, it was just, the media didn't zero in on the circus." What a moron. It's not a media circus without the media.
